Countless Join Pro-Palestinian Demonstrations as Organizers Vow to Continue Demonstrating

Tens of thousands assembled in various Australian cities at pro-Palestinian protests, with organisers pledging to keep demonstrating after a ceasefire deal facilitated by Donald Trump in Gaza seemed to be taking effect.

Sydney March Attracts Many Participants

In Sydney, the Palestine Action Group said a crowd of 30,000 had demonstrated from the central park to Belmore Park in the downtown area after a planned rally to the iconic venue was restricted by the legal authorities in recent days.

Law enforcement approximated 8,000 people participated in the city demonstration, with a representative stating there had been "minimal disturbances".

Nationwide Demonstrations Mark Anniversary

Rallies were also organized in southern city, Brisbane and Perth on the day of protest to commemorate the ongoing situation after armed incidents on October 7th, 2023 resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths in the neighboring country.

"Regarding our cause, we'll definitely persist to demonstrate for Palestinian freedom... for self-determination in Gaza, for humanitarian assistance to enter and for residents to restore their communities," commented an activist.

Mixed Reactions to Peace Deal

Many protesters voiced optimism that the truce might bring permanent peace. Some were doubtful of the former president's role and called on activists to maintain pressure on the Australian government to apply measures and stop arms transactions.

One protester, a local with Palestinian heritage residing in the city, expressed he desired the agreement would allow him to bring his elderly mother, who is still in Gaza without access to medical care, to his current home, and to find and bury his sibling, his wife and their kids, who have been missing since 2023.

Local Jewish Population Holds Commemoration

Separately, thousands participated in a Jewish memorial service on that night in the city's eastern areas to mark the second anniversary of the 2023 incidents. One speaker, the brother of Galit Carbone, an Australian citizen who was killed during the attacks, was arranged to talk.

There were hopes for soon return of those still detained in the region and those who lost their lives. The diplomatic representative, Amir Maimon, recognized the resolve of survivors. The crowd booed when he spoke about the Australian prime minister and the top diplomat.

Boat Activists Relate Stories

Sydney's pro-Palestine rally earlier featured addresses including multiple nationals released from Israeli detention after the stopping of the protest boats this month.

A participant, his injured limb after it was said to be harmed in an incarceration center, told that not enough was known about the truce arrangement. Worldwide assistance agencies, including humanitarian bodies, were preparing to enter Gaza.

"As long as there is a situation where there's a severe and prohibited barrier on the region," stated the activist, maritime demonstrators would keep working to transport assistance via water.

A different activist, who arrived home on the end of the week, gave an moving testimony describing his detention with dozens of fellow detainees in a detention facility.

Political Statements

The political representative Jenny Leong told the crowd: "We cannot let a reality where the former president decides the outcome for Palestinian communities to be the type of reality we accept."

A different coordinator who filed the initial request to protest at the iconic venue claimed that the participants could have peacefully gone to the iconic waterfront location. The NSW police assistant commissioner had previously told the court of appeal that the arrangement appeared dangerous.

The activist said on Sunday: "Every single time the law enforcement seeks to prevent our protests or legal challenges, it increases community attention... to the need to mobilise and resist these measures."
