New England Match Longest Victory Run From Brady Years with Win Against New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has scored five scores during the current campaign
The New England Patriots matched their best victory streak since the Brady period as they beat AFC East rivals the Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the Patriots secured an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's final season with the franchise in 2019
Signal-caller Drake Maye passed for 281 yards and a TD, completing 25 of 34 passes
The win increases the Patriots lead at the top of the AFC East as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after slipping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to finish the New York's initial series
But the Patriots answered in the second period as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone halfway into the third period to push the score to 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He desires to be outstanding."
Justin Fields connected with John Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the victory
