Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr has said sorry to supporters for his response when taken off in the recent heated match against Barcelona victory.

Vinicius was taken off in the second half and expressed his annoyance by going straight off the pitch.

The Brazilian subsequently came back to the dugout and, following his side's 2-1 win, sought to engage Barcelona's opposing player during unsavoury post-match scenes.

"This day I want to express regret to all the Madridistas for my behavior when I was taken off in the Clasico," Vinicius posted on social media.

"Just as I have said in person during this morning's session, I wish to say sorry once more to my colleagues, the team, and the club president.

"Sometimes passion takes over me because I continuously aim to win and help my club. My winning mentality originates in the affection I feel for this institution and everything it stands for."

He joined Real from his former club in 2018 for a significant fee and has accumulated over a century of strikes in 335 appearances.

But his career in the Madrid is far from certain with speculation in lately indicating that the club would contemplate letting the player leave if they were to receive a suitable offer.

When he was replaced on Sunday, broadcast footage from network the platform captured him remarking: "It's always me! I'm exiting the club! It's wiser if I depart, I'm moving on."

In his new statement on the platform, Vinicius commented: "I vow to keep striving every second for the good of the club, as I have performed since the initial arrival."
